Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa Murali, Vikram Prabhu who is the GenNext superstar of Tamil cinema?

Find out which of these talented newbies have the best chance of being Kollywood’s next Rajinikanth and Kamal Hassan :

Be it cinema or politics, the number of two has always been closely related to the state of Tamil Nadu. For decades, the state has been governed by either of the two ruling parties. In cinema, for almost three generations, at any given time, the battle of superstardom has been fiercely fought between two big names – be it MGR versus Sivaji in ‘50s and ‘60s, Rajinikanth versus Kamal Haasan in ‘80s and ‘90s or Vijay versus Ajith from the ‘90s till date.

In the last decade or so, this theory of two seems to be losing its ground as Kollywood got flooded with a plethora of talented actors of the likes of Suriya, Vikram, Jeeva, Vishal, Dhanush and the list goes on…Most of these actors have established themselves and have a decent fan following, but it is nothing compared to the Rajini-Kamal or Vijay-Ajith craze amongst the masses.

With the new crop of actors emerging into Tamil cinema, fans are on a look out for the next superstar who will be loved by both the classes and the masses. Bollywoodlife brings you four emerging stars that have the potential to reach the dizzying heights of superstardom.

Atharvaa Murali

Son of the late actor Murali, the 25 year old actor has shown serious promise. Three-film-old Atharvaa has improved leaps and bounds since his cold debut Baana Kaathadi opposite Samantha Ruth Prabhu. His role in the romantic thriller Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal was lauded by the cinegoers. But what really changed the perception about the actor in the minds of critics and audience alike was his incredible performance in director Bala’s hard hitting period drama Paradesi.  With heaps of films under his kitty and some big directors like Gautham Menon and Vetri Maran taking interest in the actor’s career, Atharvaa Murali is one star to look out for.

Vikram Prabhu

Being the grandson of the legendary actor late Sivaji Ganesan, the onus is on Vikram Prabhu to achieve the fame equaling to his grandfather if not surpassing it. Son of the yesteryear hero Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu made his debut in Prabhu Solomon’s much acclaimed Kumki which went on to be a superhit. His potrayal of a mahout was praised by one and all. The married actor returned to screen in Ivan Vera Madhiri, which was a decent outing for the star. With the platform set for Vikram Prabhu to carve his niche in Kollywood, will the Kumki star able to match his late grandfather’s histrionics is yet to be seen.

Gautham Karthik

How many of you would want to debut in a Mani Ratnam film? Who doesn’t? This model turned actor bagged the golden opportunity to make his silver screen debut in the ace director’s much talked about Kadal. From his grandfather actor Muthuraman to his father Karthik Muthuraman, acting has deep roots in his family. The actor known for his boy next door looks is considered to be quite a hottie amongst his female fans. The failure of the much hyped Kadal in which he paired opposite to Thulasi Nair, daughter of yesteryear heroine Radha, came as a shock to Mani Ratnam, whose star kids launch vehicle was criticised by one and all. But Gautham managed to impress the critics with his action and dance moves. Unanimously praised by seasoned actors like Arjun, Arvind Swamy and Vishal, we will have to wait and watch if Gautham Karthik has the fire power to rocket himself to superstardom.

Sivakarthikeyan :

Unlike the other star kids in the list, this is one actor who had to rise to recognition without any filmi background to support him. Sivakarthikeyan started his career as a wannabe comedian in Vijay TV’s reality show Kalakka Povathu Yaaru. The actor later got a chance to be a presenter at the same TV channel and got noticed for his slapstick humour. Sivakarthikeyan’s first shot to cine field, Marina, though failed at the box office, but the actor’s performance was thoroughly enjoyed by one and all. Sivakarthikeyan, who has given back to back hits with Ethir Neechal,Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Maan Karate, has often been criticised for his predictable style of acting and doing same kind of films. If this actor turned comedian wants to be the GenNext superstar of Tamil cinema, experts are of an opinion that he should experiment with his choice of roles. With his recent close friendship with star actor-singer-producer Dhanush and music composer Anirudh, Sivakarthikeyan has got the much needed support survive in this rat race to superstardom.
